When I started working with AEM as a Cloud Service Migration project, one topic that created confusion is run modes. In simple words, run modes help AEM know where and how it is running - for example, whether it is running on Author or Publish, and whether the environment is Dev, Stage, Prod, or RDE. In AEM as a Cloud Service, Adobe supports a fixed set of run modes and does not allow additional custom run modes.
